Interactivity #2

In 1900's, the invention of TV probably made the classroom more fun and diverse, however it is sad to see that this many students had to sit in front of a tiny little Television to figure out what they were talking about.

  1. You make a great point that the introduction of television in the classroom makes it more fun and diverse. I also notice that the majority, if not all the students, have their hand raised. It seems as if the students are enthusiastic to answer a question and participate. The seem to all be paying attention and that is definitely the case if the teacher puts on something entertaining or colorful for them to watch. With that said, television has had a major impact on students and will continue to do so.

  2. Helen,

You mention how much you would hate looking at such a small screen, but think of it this way:

In 15 years, when we have entire walls and ceilings dedicated to projection video, won't people be saying things such as "Man, I would hate to have to watch this on a small projection screen or 60" LED TV!"? In a way, I feel as though those children didn't even think twice about their tiny TV (unless, of course, it was a small TV compared to the models that were around at the time).

But don't get me wrong, I'm rather unhappy with the 32" LCD in my room because it's "Too small", so I guess I truly am not one to talk!!

Anyways, just some food for thought! I absolutely love the image though! It's always such a great thing to see an ENTIRE class raising their hands! Wonderful!

  3. I feel that TV in the classroom is a double edged sword. while it can be used as a way to convey information, it needs to be implemented properly. Especially with older students, if the TV lesson is not supplemented, or made interesting, many students will goof off or fall asleep, which leads to distractions which take away from the learning experience. I suppose it's important to properly plan out how to use TV in the classroom before actually using it, however, judging by the picture, it seems that the teacher above was doing something right!
